Scotish ponies are supreme at BSPS Scotland spring show

SCOTTISH-BRED native ponies claimed the supreme awards at the BSPS Scotland Spring Show, Rowallan. The Welsh mountain first ridden pony Waxwing Thumbs Up, mini champion of the RIHS mountain and moorland classes, was overall champion of the show, ahead of the Dartmoor pony Rushfield Morgan Spice, which, on his first ever outing, had headed the Heritage novice mini classes.

Waxwing Thumbs Up is owned by sisters Georgina Shuttleworth and Diana Leeming, from Ilkley, where they have a farm and riding school, and was ridden by Oliver Shuttleworth who was reserve with him at the Horse of the Year Show after heading the Brineton Colne mountain and moorland classes. They were recently champions at BSPS Area lA, Richmond and at home, Thumbs Up has shown a talent for jumping.

Christine`s Dartmoor stallion Rushfield Bailey was ridden by Louise Maxwell into first place in his Heritage mountain and moorland class.

Mini pony champion was the show pony lead rein winner, the mare Copperhalt Star Comedy, by Diptford Star of India. She was partnered by five-year-old James Bainbridge-Craig and judge Fiona Cameron had noted that not only did this "very correct" pony have very good paces, but she was also "very kind to her little rider".

Charlie Cousens` lead rein Riverwood Class Act, a five-year-old pony by Pendley Gold Link, was having a first show outing, ridden by Olivia Cousens, and was reserve.

Shona Thomson`s Cromagtir Dylan, ridden by Hazel Mowat and now at Margaret Patterson`s yard, was reserve mini novice to Rushfield Morgan Spice.

"This is a whole new career for Dylan after being gelded," said Shona.
